We’ve all heard of platforms like Drupal, Joomla and Magento – it allows you to create sites and even backend systems. They more suited for web applications than content management system where interaction between users are more important than its content.
However, as technology evolves, we now have better options to build websites conveniently without having the knowledge to code. Top of the list would be WordPress and Shopify; commonly used for general/informative and e-commerce respectively. Both WordPress and Shopify as compared to the above mentioned Drupal/Joomla/Magento, provides features that allows site owners to maintain and update their sites easily. I would credit that to the developers of these two platforms because its user interface (UI) has saved many of my clients’ precious time keeping their sites updated.
The last thing a site owner needs is to read codes that they don’t understand.
Here’s a comparison between Drupal and Joomla.
|Popularity: 3rd||Popularity: 2nd|
|Best used for: One size fits all||Best used for: E-Commerce / Social networking|
|Installation difficulty: 4||Installation difficulty: 3|
|Learning curve: Steep||Learning curve: Moderate|
In my opinion, unless you DIY your own site, go for the most manageable platform. All efforts should be done by the developers to make your site look pretty!
